Hotels in Udon Thani – The Top Mansion Hotel

For those of you searching for hotels in Udon Thani and are looking to find somewhere that’s very reasonably priced and right in the heart of Udon Thani’s nightlife and shopping sector, the Top Mansion Hotel could very well be the perfect accommodation for you.

The Top Mansion is a four-storey hotel on Soi Sampantamit and has a reputation as a hotel with decent standard rooms, friendly staff and one which is ideally placed to experience Udon Thani’s lively nightlife, have-it-all night markets and sumptuous Central Plaza Shopping Mall.

The Top Mansion is a popular place for westerners visiting Udon Thani but despite its locale being in the midst of the city’s western bar area, it is also a popular hotel among Thais. And that’s a stamp of approval which hallmarks the Top Mansion as a hotel which offers excellent value for money.

Rooms at the Top Mansion are spacious enough for two people and come complete with air-con, Cable TV, internet access, a small refrigerator, twin or double beds and balcony. A small but adequate bathroom completes the set-up, but be warned its shower has enough power to blast an elephant sideways. The price per room (not per person) is just 450 baht (US$15), but there may be a surcharge for your elephant.

The one downside to the Top Mansion Hotel is its lack of restaurant facilities, though that is offset by the wealth of restaurants and eateries just a short walking distance away.  The hotel’s reception area has comfortable seating and sells drinks, snacks and has daily newspapers in both English and Thai. For those arriving by car, the Top Mansion’s car park is a big bonus in an area of the city where evening parking space is in very short supply. Udon Thani’s train station and main bus station are less than a ten-minute walk away.

The Top Mansion Hotel is excellent value at 450 baht a night and is ideal for anyone wishing to stay right in the heart of Udon Thani’s nightlife action. It’s also a great base to sample the city’s two big night markets and newly opened Central Plaza mall (shown on the map as Robinson Shopping Complex). Click on the map to enlarge.

  1. Sounds like a nice enough place. Why is everything called a “mansion” in Thailand? Is there something lost in the translation here or do they think it makes their hotel/guesthouse seem more impressive?

Lawrence – You’re right. It’s hardly a mansion but at 450 baht it is a decent place to stay. I’d say a little underpriced by 50-100 baht.

It was hard to get a decent picture of the outside because of the width of the soi and the height of the building. Plus there are loads of electric cables running alongside it about one floor up. Definitely not a mansion but not too bad a looking place.

Hi everyone, I’ve stayed at Top Mansion whenever I do a “visa run” over to Lao for many years now. I think it is pretty much unbeatable for price and location. Udon Thanni has many good restaurants and expat bars.
I must point out its only draw back is that it has NO lift !!! so you must ensure you get a room on the lower floors.

Ray – Thanks for backing up my review of the Top Mansion. It’s a good hotel and its price is excellent considering it’s right in the heart of the city centre.

I was on the fourth floor and lugging my suitcase up the stairs was exhausting but well worth the effort.
