Nobi’s Bar and Restaurant in Udon Thani
They say popularity is the in-thing at high school but in the real world you have to earn it and Nobi’s Bar and Restaurant in Udon Thani has a stream of regular customers to suggest the latter has been well and truly achieved. Nobi’s Bar is one of the most popular bars amongst expats in Udon Thani.
Nobi’s Bar and Restaurant is in Soi Sampanthamit opposite the very popular Top Mansion Hotel. Soi Sampan and the surrounding area has a rich glut of bars, restaurants, hotels and guesthouses with Udon Thani’s chic Central Plaza and fair-haired night markets only a short walk away. Nobi’s Bar is ideally placed.
Bar owner Nobi opened for business in Udon Thani in February 2007 with a menu filled with authentic German cuisine mixed with popular western dishes and of course Thai food too. And Nobi’s Bar has been a huge success ever since.
The atmosphere at Nobi’s Bar is relaxed and friendly with ample seating and its some days large regular group of expats and their visiting friends give the bar a deserving popular look and appeal. The white-hatted plastic pig in waiter attire is always there, and with very good reason too.
Nobi is a former pig farmer and aside from the bar’s extensive menu there are chilled meat products and cheeses on sale to takeaway.
Homemade German Leberwurst, Fleiswurst and Frankfurter sausages as well as plain smoked beef bangers are available and a range of cheeses which include Swizz Appenzeller, Gruyère and Tilisiter. Bacon, ham, salami and coppa (cured dried pork) are on sale too. Does the pig use the motorbike for deliveries?
Eating out at Nobi’s Bar and Restaurant is easy on the wallet and a perfect choice for both westerners and Thais but especially for anyone on the hunt for authentic home style German food in Udon Thani. Here’s a few of the dishes on the menu;

Nobi’s Bar and Restaurant is a breathe easy, take time out kind of place and in my opinion one of the best bars in Udon Thani.
I was hoping to locate Soi Sampanthamit on our way to Central – no luck. Plan an escape to the Irish Clock for a decent brew – Never got out of the starting blocks.
How – Soi Sampanthamit is a two minute walk from Central Plaza. Walk out the plaza and take a left on the main road (towards the railway station) and Soi Sampan is about 50 metres up on the left. You missed out on a few cool pints of Irish Guinness. Perhaps next time.
I’m always very reluctant to try steak in Thailand, considering it’s really not that cheap even compared to the west. I think the best steak I ever ate here would have been average at best back home. Sausage on the other hand, I could go for that.
Lawrence – For years I couldn’t find a decent breakfast banger in Thailand but over the past few years things have really improved. Now they’re nearly as good as the ones in the UK.
