Western Bars in Loei – The Saloon Bar

The Saloon Bar in Loei city centre. Not the best of photographs, taken in the evening with a camera that is a clear sky, daytime animal. Nonetheless, it shows the bar and restaurant’s outside area and a glimpse of the inside. The Saloon Bar opened last year after the owner Chris closed down his previous bar the popular Ban Thai Bar & Restaurant.

The Saloon Bar in Loei

The old and the new bar are very different though thankfully the same menu remains. An excellent one it is. Great food, European and Thai, at prices that mean you won’t have to hold buying your baby a new hat. The new bar looks nothing like the Ban Thai which had a lived-in, quirky style. The Saloon Bar looks a lot different and is more Pattaya side street style. Not that there’s anything out-of-order with that.

The bar is long and one unit width. There’s a good amount of seating inside and out. A pool table adds appeal for some, and the bar’s music system probably seals the deal for a lot of younger people. Not that there’s too many of those around in Loei – western youngsters that is.

The Saloon Bar is a popular meeting point for expat bikers. Expatriate motorbike enthusiasts might be a better term. They are motorbike devotees who enjoy a beer, music, good food and a game of pool. They also welcome anyone to join in the fun.

Anyone disappointed to find the Ban Thai Bar & Restaurant has closed will not have far to travel to the Saloon Bar and its excellent menu. The bar is about 200 yards away on Ruam Pattana, a side street off Nok Kaeo Road. See the map below.

  1. I have often thought about trying to build up enough energy to finally slide off my resident Pattaya soi 6 bar stool and take a trip over to Loei , I’m sure the change of scenery and taking in some fresh air would have a profound benefit both health and wallet wise .

Only owning an old trusty Honda Wave 100 I , I’m not really a biker sort of guy , but I do have a few regrettable jail houses tats from a miss spent youth , so may be I would blend in down at the Saloon Bar .

Any other recommended watering holes that serve food in the Loei area , where a big tattooed bear would be made welcome .

MB – Thanks for your comment. Most interesting. Loei isn’t big on Western bars. The Saloon Bar would be your best bet, possibly the only one, although I haven’t explored the city too much. I get there for a three-day trip once every year.
